What to Expect During a Colonoscopy / Gastroscopy

A clear, reassuring roadmap from preparation to comfortable recovery under Dr Teoh's specialist supervision.

You will have a detailed consultation with Dr Teoh to determine your needs and explanation of what to expect for the procedure. You will receive instructions for the bowel preparation.

The procedure will be performed safely under sedation. You will be asleep and very comfortable.

The procedure is performed in a specialised endoscopy centre with up-to-date facilities and fully trained staff as a day-case admission.

4. Recovery

You will be monitored for a short period. After you have had something to drink and eat, you can be discharged. The entire process from admission to discharge will usually be about 4 to 5 hours.

A colonoscopy may be recommended if you have persistent changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, unexplained abdominal pain or discomfort, unexplained weight loss or iron-deficiency anaemia. Your doctor can assess your symptoms and determine whether a colonoscopy is needed.
